I live on a sea of sand and alkali patches, in a barren desert, at the far end of a small sprawling community in Northern Nevada. Desolate, wind swept country. This is my hard won slice of paradise. Against all odds, I cultivate trees, flowers, vegetables, peace and contentment. This is my garden in the sun.

Garden
I was up pretty early this morning. I was sitting by the patio door. A hummingbird was Thrrpping loudly. Finally, a lot of hummingbirds showed up. I think she was calling in her babies.
There was a cloud of hummingbirds at one point, all swirling like a mini tornado trying to "own" the feeding stations. I counted 8 all there at once. Some of them have to be babies as they are awkward. The sun is up but they are still at it. Dive bombing and guarding and zipping and zooming and buzzing and beeping and thripping in their little hummingbird voices. What a fun way to wake. Coffee and hummingbirds. Wow!
