Garden
Really hot again today, near 100.
Watering East side overnight.
Caught a kangaroo rat in the chipmunk trap. Took out to the field and let hm go. So cute with its big black eyes and soft tawny fur.
Finally got one of the half dozen gophers trying to over take the yard.
Picked a lovely Cos lettuce and a red deer tongue lettuce and made two giant salds. Also got more carrots from the garden and had those in the giant salad along with sweet peppers [store bought] avocados, onion, bacon and cheddar cheese. What a meal!
Froze two more baggies of pea pods for making chinese this winter.

Garden
Hot like 98 degrees hot today. Got a bunch of weeding done and some of the cheat grass raked up and put in a trash can.
Watering fruit trees overnight.
Got about a cup and a half of garden peas [shelled] and boy were they delicious in our Greek shrimp, oregano, garlic, feta cheese, shell noodles dinner. I know, feta cheese?!!! It is the only dish I like it in and that shrimp dish is delicious.
Mosquitoes are still terrible.

Garden
Well, looks like it will be turning quite hot tomorrow. Today was 88 degrees and it wasn't as hot feeling as I thought it would be. I weeded three row in the garden. If I get to feeling ambitious I will put on some repel and go out at dusk and do a little more.
The holiday weekend is upon us. I think we will stick around and hopefully get stuff done around here until it gets too hot out and then we will come inside and make really good food.
Hubby is going to make noodles from scratch and I am going to make an alfredo sauce with shrimp and peas, garlic and organo, maybe some basil, maybe some bacon. We shall see. That will be on Saturday.
Sunday, if the turkey is thawed out enough, Hubby will be doing a turkey on the BBQ. This will probably be an all day event so I am thinking burgers for lunch. Got some avocados for chips and cheese and dipping in the guacomole. Of coure, avocado is good on a burger with some cheese and bacon, as well. Do we weigh 400 pounds. No, and Hubby is losing weight again lately. So am I but in a much smaller fashion.
On a weekend like this, however, you gotta eat tasty food.
I picked lettuce today and I pulled some carrots. They look stunning!!!!! They are up to 6 inches long and look just like real carrots and they taste good, too. We also had snap peas. Just a few so I put those in our large salads as well. Steak and giant salads along with a few blue tortilla chips and some guacamole. Now that is some good eating.
Watering - Looks like it is time to water the east side again overnight.
I have a calcium supplement that I am going to use the drip feeder with and put on the veggie garden. the calcium shouldn't hurt any of the veggie plants and this year I want tomatoes. Hope it helps.

Garden
Not much to report today. I ignored the garden in favor of cleaning a house, meeting hubby for coffee and enjoying my time on the internet. This is our last really nice day for awhile in that it looks like it will be almost 100 degrees for the next week. Have to get things done early in the morning or late as the sun starts going down.
I picked a head of lettuce that must have been over 12 inches across. It was beautiful! Hope we are going to get some more strawberries. Over all the veggie garden is spectacular this year!
Watering the North zone over night.
Gave the street zone a booster thismorning but since we got so much rain yesterday morning I did not water overnight last night.

Rain!
Woke up to the sound of rain gently falling outside my window. I love the rain. Then the thunder started rolling across the sky. This year has been a lot of rain. We might make it to 8 inches. I'll have to try to look that up. Our average here is less than 6 inches and we don't even support a short grass habitat. The good news is you can see for miles.
Enjoy the beautifull cool rainy day because it will all be gone shortly and the heat is coming on. Fourth of July is precited to be hotter than a firecracker.
I picked sugar pod peas today and a few snap pea pods as well. I love when the veggie garden is producing. I have to clean a house tomorrow so most of my day is shot but this weekend I will be able to get back to my projects and my garden. Fourth of July seem searly this year. I don't know why.
Okay, that is five bags of pea pods for making stir fry this winter. Of course we will be combining that with our summer squashes that we will be freezing as well as some store bought veggies. You can't beat stir fry for easy and delicious eating.
Best get out there and pick a bit of lettuce and the get to work on freezing pea pods.
